Money and currencies

Amounts are numbers with their currency's own decimals, beside the currency's ISO 4217 code. Prices include VAT.

How an amount looks

Every amount is a JSON number written with exactly the decimals its currency has, beside the currency's three-letter ISO 4217 code:

JSON
{ "total": 147.00, "vat": 25.51, "currency": "EUR" }
{ "total": 147,    "vat": 13,    "currency": "JPY" }
{ "total": 147.000, "vat": 7.000, "currency": "KWD" }

An event has one currency, chosen when it is made, and every price, order, invoice and discount of it is in that currency. The event says which in currency.

To store minor units, multiply by ten to the power of the currency's decimals: 147.00 EUR is 14700 cents, 147 JPY is 147 yen, 147.000 KWD is 147000 fils.

VAT

Prices include VAT, as the attendee pays them. An order says its total and the vat in it; each invoice line carries its own VAT rate, rounded once on the line, so the lines add up to the invoice. VAT is charged where the event takes place, so a business buyer from another country pays the event's VAT too.

The budget is the exception: it is planned net of VAT, and its summary says so in basis.

A credit note's amounts are the amounts it gives back. Refunds are always credit notes: an invoice is never changed once issued.

Several currencies

A workspace can run events in different currencies; add amounts up per currency, never across. When an invoice must also state its VAT in another currency (the law asks for it in some countries), vatCurrency and vatConverted say how much, at the rate recorded on the invoice.
