Accessibility statement
Everybody should be able to register for an event, find their way around it and run one. This page says what we aim for, how we check it and where we still fall short.
What this covers
This statement covers attendbeacon.com, the organisers' workspace, the attendee app in the browser and in the Android and iOS apps, the kiosk and the room screens, and the emails the product sends. What an organiser adds to their own event, such as pictures and documents, is theirs: we give them the tools, such as descriptions for pictures and event colours we check for contrast.
What we do
- Every control can be reached and used with a keyboard, focus is always visible, and a dialog keeps focus inside until it closes.
- Pages have landmarks, headings and a link to skip to the content; form fields have labels, and errors and confirmations are announced.
- Text and controls have the contrast WCAG asks for, in the light theme and in the dark one.
- Pages reflow down to 320 pixels wide and zoom to 200% without losing anything; animations stop when your device asks for less motion.
- Whatever you can drag, you can also do with a click or by typing, and codes and passwords can be pasted.
- Every page says which of our eleven languages it is in, so a screen reader reads it with the right voice.
How we check
With every release, axe-core runs over the main pages of the website, the workspace and the attendee app, in light and dark, at desktop and phone widths, and further checks look at focus, target sizes, reflow and each page's language. We also go through the pages with a keyboard. There has been no external audit yet, and testing with screen readers has been limited so far.
Known limitations
These are the places we know do not fully meet the target yet, and what you can do instead:
- On venue maps, pins can sit close together. The map's list and search show the same places, and the zoom buttons make the pins bigger.
- In the workspace's venue map editor, drawing the outline of a room or a stand needs a mouse or a finger. Placing and moving pins works with clicks, the keyboard or typed positions.
- The door scanner and the room screens are made to be looked at. At the door, a ticket code can be typed instead of scanned.
- Pictures, documents and videos an organiser uploads may lack descriptions or captions; the organiser of the event can provide them.
- Pages of other services we send you to, such as the payment provider or a video platform, are outside our control.
Tell us
If something on AttendBeacon is hard or impossible to use, or you need information in another form, email us and say what you were trying to do and on which page. We will reply, help you another way in the meantime and fix what we can. peter@powerpete.com
